Conservative Spokesman for Barrow and Furness Simon Fell has welcomed new funding awarded to the Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team.
The government funding is part of a £1 million package being awarded to dozens of charities working to keep inland waterways around the country safe, helping with the cost of new equipment to help volunteer search teams save lives more quickly and easily.
The Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team will receive £2,253.06 to ensure that it can continue to keep people safe on and around the water.
Commenting, Simon Fell said:
“I am delighted that the Conservatives in government have recognised the fantastic work done by the Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team here in Barrow & Furness, and are providing support to allow them to continue doing so.
“The volunteers of the Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team are the unsung heroes of the UK’s waterways – their commitment saves lives and on behalf of the whole community, I extend my sincere thanks to them for their work.”
