Growth deal for cumbria delivers 21m for barrow and furness
Great news for Barrow & Furness today as the Government announced the next ground of funding for regional Growth Deals.
New investment will be going to three areas in Barrow & Furness directly:
An Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre at Furness College to equip local residents with the skills to take up the expanding opportunities at BAE and within the supply chain for major manufacturers.
The improvement of the Barrow Waterfront site, which will enable growth in this key centre of manufacturing.
Junction improvements to increase capacity in South Ulverston, supporting the expansion of GlaxoSmithKline, protecting against flooding and allowing housing development.
Giving local communities the power and the money to unlock growth and development and make the spending decisions that work for them is a key part of the long-term economic plan.
That’s what this Growth Deal is all about: backing local people and investing in infrastructure, housing and skills to drive forward Barrow & Furness' economy, and creating more jobs and opportunities for hardworking people in the peninsular. The new funding announced today across the UK and in Barrow will help to improve roads, build new homes, provide new education and training facilities and support our manufacturing industries.
The Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership has been handed control of this money by the Government in order to ensure that the local area gets the greatest possible benefit from it.
I'm proud to support a government that supports local people and local business and backs the creation of a North West powerhouse economy.
