Simon Fell, Conservative Candidate for Barrow & Furness, met with the Chancellor earlier yesterday and invited him to view the economic development and apprenticeship programmes in Barrow first hand.
Having attended the speeches by the Prime Minister and Chancellor earlier today alongside business leaders from across the North West, Simon Fell spoke to them both about developments in Barrow and invited the Chancellor to visit the area.
Speaking after the event from his home in Ulverston, Simon said:
"It was fitting that when the Chancellor talked about economic growth in the North West and creating a powerhouse economy, he mentioned Barrow. The Waterfront development that he listed in his speech is a great example of why Barrow is a good place for the world to do business.
"The work that the Government has done in setting right the economy and paying down the deficit means that global businesses is looking again at Barrow and investing.
"That's great news for jobs, local businesses, schools, and the wider community. A rising tide lifts all boats.
"With the electrification of the rail line, investment in offshore energy, a commitment from the Conservatives on Trident renewal, and the patent box scheme which led Glaxo to pledge £1.4bn of local investment, Barrow & Furness is punching above its weight in the region.
"I very much hope that the Chancellor will accept my offer to visit and see the incredible work being done in the area first hand."
