At a recent meeting of the Low Furness and Ulverston Conservative Branch a discussion took place on the severe weather and flooding that has taken place throughout Cumbria this week.
Our hearts went out to all those effected and we are full of admiration of the Cumbria community spirit and all the services both statutory and voluntary that have worked day and night in keeping Cumbria safe. As you are all aware they are also helping with the mammoth task of clearing up, this is going to take months and months to achieve but we will get there.
Over the past 10 years Cumbria has suffered greatly by the effects of the weather. We in the South West corner have been very lucky this time, apart from the closure of the A590 for around 24hours we have not been as disrupted as Kendal, Carlisle, Keswick, Appleby, Grasmere, Cockermouth and Glenridding.
Members of the Branch wanted to show their support to Cumbria, so we are supporting the Cumbria Community Foundation Appeal and would like to encourage others if they can, to do so. You can do this on the Web - Cumbria Community Foundation or by Cheque made payable to Cumbria Community Foundation, Flood Appeal, Davenby Hall, Cockermouth, Cumbria CA13 0PN.
It’s going to be a long winter for many communities, please send out this message to you friends and family CUMBRIA is OPEN.
